⚡ The Crisis: Why AI Agents Are Draining Crypto Wallets

In 2026, autonomous AI agents (powered by Claude, OpenAI, ElizaOS, and LangChain) are actively managing crypto treasuries, executing DeFi rebalances, and coordinating agent-to-agent commerce.

However, existing architectures make a fatal mistake: they give the AI model direct signing access to a private key.

  • Prompt Injection Hijacks: An attacker embeds an adversarial prompt in scraped web data or tool returns, instructing the agent to transfer treasury funds to an attacker's wallet.
  • Model Hallucinations: An LLM miscalculates slippage, swaps against an unverified drainer proxy, or loops infinitely until all gas and capital are depleted.
  • Lack of Formal Invariants: Traditional multisigs require human sign-off (breaking autonomy), while simple prompt instructions ("please don't spend more than $50") are completely bypassable by malicious actors.

🛡️ The Solution: AetherGuard

AetherGuard enforces the Proposer vs. Signer Enclave Pattern with zero-overhead, sub-millisecond Rust verification:

  1. Agent as Untrusted Proposer: The AI agent NEVER sees or holds a private key. The agent only submits a transaction proposal.
  2. Deterministic Invariant Firewall: Before any transaction reaches the mempool or chain, AetherGuard mathematically verifies:
    • Velocity Caps: Strict per-transaction and rolling-window (1h / 24h) spending boundaries.
    • Balance Floor Invariant: Mathematical guarantee that the account reserve balance can NEVER breach a defined minimum threshold.
    • Whitelists: Cryptographic enforcement of verified destination wallets, approved DEX contracts, and allowed method selectors.
  3. Hardware-Isolated Signing Enclave: Only if ALL mathematical invariants pass does the isolated Ed25519 enclave emit a cryptographic attestation proof and broadcast the transaction.

💎 Protocol Fee Economics (Self-Sustaining Revenue)

AetherGuard implements an optional on-chain 0.05% protocol micro-fee (5 basis points) on verified autonomous settlements:

  • Scaled for high-frequency micro-transactions on Stellar/Soroban ($0.00001 gas).
  • Provides sustainable recurring protocol revenue to the protocol treasury on every agent settlement across the ecosystem.
