A project that demonstrates how to build a Dockerized MCP Server on Kali Linux, enabling AI-driven control over selected cybersecurity and system tools through the Model Context Protocol.

🧭 Overview

This repository documents my setup and experimentation with running the Model Context Protocol (MCP) on Kali Linux using Docker.
In this configuration, MCP operates within a Docker container, allowing an AI model — in this case, Claude — to securely access and interact with selected tools available in the Kali Linux environment.

By connecting Claude through the MCP interface, I can bridge AI reasoning capabilities with real-world command-line tools used for cybersecurity, automation, and system analysis.
This setup effectively turns MCP into a structured protocol layer that provides controlled, contextual access between the AI and the underlying system utilities.

⚙️ What is MCP?

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open framework that enables AI models to connect to external tools, data sources, and environments in a standardized and secure way.
It defines how models discover available tools, exchange structured requests, and receive controlled results — typically through JSON-based communication over WebSocket or HTTP.

In other words, MCP acts as a middleware layer between the model and the system. It allows the model to run commands, query data, or automate workflows safely and predictably, without direct or unrestricted system execution.
This makes it a foundational component for building AI agents that can interact with the real world responsibly.

⚙️ How MCP Works

The Model Context Protocol functions as a communication bridge between AI models and external tools or environments.
Instead of giving the AI direct, unrestricted system access, MCP defines a structured protocol that safely exposes specific commands, APIs, or data sources as tools the model can use.

Here’s a simplified breakdown of the process:

1. Server Setup:
   The MCP server runs inside a Docker container based on Kali Linux. It registers and manages the tools or services that the AI can safely use.

2. Client Connection (Claude):
   The AI model connects to the MCP server through a standardized interface. MCP then handles all request and response traffic between the AI and the system tools.

3. Tool Invocation:
   When the AI needs to perform an action (e.g., run a network scan or analyze a file), it sends a structured request via MCP.
   The server executes the corresponding command or API call and returns the results in a defined format.

4. Controlled Access & Safety:
   Only the tools explicitly defined and exposed in the MCP configuration are accessible to the AI, ensuring safety, reproducibility, and isolation.

This architecture enables AI-augmented system interaction — where Claude can intelligently decide when and how to use tools within Kali Linux, while all execution remains governed by the rules enforced through the MCP layer.

🐳 Why Use Docker

Running the MCP Server inside Docker provides a safe, portable, and reproducible environment — which is especially important when working with Kali Linux tools that interact closely with the system.

Docker ensures that the AI’s access through MCP is strictly contained within a sandboxed container. This means the AI model (like Claude) can use powerful tools — such as network scanners, analyzers, and system utilities — without posing a risk to the host machine.

1. Isolation and Safety:
   All commands, installations, and interactions happen inside a controlled container environment. This prevents the AI from directly affecting your main system.

   You can easily customize, extend, or rebuild the container to include specific tools or scripts the AI should have access to.

   Starting, stopping, or updating the MCP server becomes as easy as running a few Docker commands — no complex local configurations required.

By using Docker, the MCP server can safely execute tasks and interact with Kali Linux utilities in an isolated, predictable environment. This setup provides the perfect balance between AI autonomy and system security, allowing the model to perform advanced operations without leaving its sandbox.
